Steve Jobs, the Apple co-founder who reshaped the multimedia industry died. He was 56. Jobs, a computer genius who, with fellow college dropout Steve Wozniak, built the first Apple computers from the Jobs' family garage, died of complications from pancreatic cancer. Jobs was battling cancer since 2004.

"We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today," Apple said in a brief statement. "Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve."

Jobs died "peacefully" and surrounded by his family," his family said in a statement.
