Nokia helps companies build extremely efficient and reliable radio access networks using best-in-class management and optimization practices. During GITEX GLOBAL, Mikko Lavanti, SVP, Mobile Networks, Nokia MEA, shared details on what innovations they showcase, highlighting the telecom vendor’s anyRAN solution.

The anyRAN Solution

Nokia showcased how disruptive network technologies and software approaches are pushing the boundaries of innovation and sustainability to create new opportunities. Moreover, they laid out proven paths that help create a collaborative advantage by bringing together leading technology partners.

“What we see is that enterprise solutions will be more important in the future. With Nokia anyRAN, we are working with public cloud providers such as Google and AWS. Here, we are showcasing server hardware from Dell and HPE, and the Cloud RAN Smart Network Interface Card (SmartNIC) for L1 acceleration, which we co-created with Marvell,” explained Lavanti.

Nokia anyRAN will support any purpose-built, hybrid and Cloud RAN environment with common software.

“With the SmartNIC for L1 acceleration, we enable feature and performance parity with purpose-built RAN and ease of integration into any server and cloud environment,” added Lavanti. “We understand our CSP customers will have, for long term, the classic RAN in place, but the Cloud RAN will be there for the enterprise customers. We need to make sure that they will get the same services, whether they are in the classic or Cloud RAN.”

AirScale Habrok Radio Showcase

Lavanti also mentioned Nokia’s showcase of their latest AirScale Habrok radio, which is a 64x64 Massive MIMO.

“It is really powerful, and one of the things that our customers liked about that is the fact that it weighs only 25 kilos. It will also be available on different types of frequencies,” stated Lavanti.

Nokia’s Robust Energy Efficiency Portfolio

Nokia also demonstrated its energy efficiency with a portfolio containing all-in-one cabinet solutions. In addition, Lavanti pointed out that, “with zero-footprint site solutions, we are putting the rectifiers and batteries in the mast.”

“I was recently talking with one of the African customers and they really like the solution because of this and the assets cannot be vandalized. So, this will be a good solution as the valuable batteries are now up in the tower.”

Lavanti also noted Nokia’s Wavence Microwave E-band portfolio, which is an industry-leading solution, is building customers’ backhauling.

Nokia’s Open Innovation Lab, Dubai

Furthermore, alongside its recent ‘Partner Day,” Nokia launched its Open Innovation Lab in Dubai.

“We are bringing, together with our partners, the network including our latest MantaRay SON solution. The idea behind this is that smaller companies who are developing APIs can come and test their solutions, which we can then introduce in the markets in the region.”
