During the recent 11th China Mobile Global Partner Conference, China Mobile and Huawei jointly announced the establishment of a New Calling Innovation Center. This new center will help to propel forward large-scale commercial use of New Calling, where calling will shift from voice to video and then to content, enabling China Mobile and Huawei to jointly build a solid New Calling ecosystem.

New Calling is an upgrade to traditional calling services and has been positioned as one of the strategic products by China Mobile. China Mobile has taken the lead to define the VoNR+ target network architecture and typical service flows and initiated multiple international and national standards projects. Together with Huawei and other partners, China Mobile has developed innovative New Calling services, such as “fun” calling (video calls where users appear as avatars, for example), visualized voice calling, real-time translation, and speech-to-text conversion. At present, China Mobile has beta-tested these services in multiple provinces in China and commenced the construction of a nationwide New Calling network.

Business success for New Calling will require the cooperation of all partners in the chain. Sticking to openness, collaboration, and shared success, the New Calling Innovation Center will give full play to the advantages of telecom operators and the industry, build an environment for developing new communications technologies, capabilities, and applications, and help New Calling ecosystem partners swiftly verify their capabilities and roll out new services.

In addition, the New Calling Innovation Center will function as a base for user experience upgrades. It can help partners quickly develop and integrate New Calling applications, accelerate service innovation, verify and improve service experiences, and promote in-depth cooperation between industry partners. Meanwhile, by channeling capabilities and thoughts, partners can be encouraged to develop and monetize valuable business models and applications.

China Mobile collaborated with industry partners such as Huawei and iFLYTEK on New Calling service development and technology evolution, and jointly built a new communications ecosystem that integrates applications, content, AI, and terminals. At the establishment ceremony of the New Calling Innovation Center, China Mobile and Huawei made the world's first IMS data channel-based call using a Huawei Mate 60 Pro over a commercial New Calling network and released a New Calling Ecosystem Cooperation White Paper, helping accelerate the development and prosperity of New Calling and achieve win-win outcomes.
