At a recent press conference in Dubai hosted by Aruba, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company, the key word #GenMobile was introduced by Aruba’s Middle East and Turkey Regional Director, Mr. Ammar Enaya. The term refers to employees defined by their preference for mobility both in terms of the devices they use and their approach to work. Aruba, which prides itself on providing smarter networks that are insightful and predictable to accelerate the transition to smart buildings, held the press conference to extend its expertise in preparing IT firms and telcos for the future of enterprise mobility.

Telecom Review hosted its 7th successful annual Summit on December 13, 2016, held under the recurring theme: ‘It’s All About SMART Networking’. Once again, the Summit gathered the best telecom and ICT industry leaders under one roof at the Intercontinental Hotel, Dubai Festival City, to share knowledge and insights about transitions happening within the telecom and ICT industry. This year’s event focused on ICT as being the heart of a ‘Smart City’. Esteemed guests included His Excellency Mr. Yasser El Kady, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Arab Republic of Egypt, who delivered an inspiring keynote speech.

The Gulf Information Technology Exhibition, hosted at the Dubai World Trade Center, gets bigger and better every year. This year's 36th GITEX Technology Week hosted the Global Startup Movement, in response to the need for an industry hub for investors, incubators and accelerators to identify the world's next great startups and support youth empowerment. Dubai's Crown Prince and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, opened GITEX 2016, which ran for five days from 16 to 20 October. Sheikh Hamdan stopped at the stand of UAE telecoms heavyweight Etisalat, as well as other leading tech companies from the region and around the world, to kick-start the most highly anticipated technology event in the Middle East.

The results of the ITU World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly 2016 (WTSA-16) and standards for future smart 5G systems were the key topics discussed at a meeting of 14 high-level ICT industry executives (CTOs) with the senior management of the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) and the ITU Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R).
