The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has launched a first-of-its-kind advanced digital platform for pharmaceutical public and private facilities as well as health practitioners to store their data.

The platform, which is blockchain-based, was developed in collaboration with Dubai Healthcare City and the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, among other health authorities. The general aim behind the initiative is to ensure greater efficiency, especially in terms of smart services. The initiative is also in lie with the outcomes of the UAE government’s annual meetings.

MoHAP plans to use the platform as part of their strategy to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into their health services which is also in line with the country’s AI strategy which is one of the country’s pioneering initiatives of the UAE Centennial 2071.

The app will enable a three-step process through which the search for medical personnel and healthcare-related facilities will be streamlined into one place. Additionally, the app will allow users to make inquiries about medication through which they will be able to find information about any given medicine’s retail price, manufacturer(s), active substance(s) and directions of use.

Dr. Amin Hussein Al Amiri, assistant undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Prevention’s Public Health Policy and Licensees, stated, “The transition to the AI technologies is in line with the directives of the wise leadership to make the UAE a leading global model in the proactive confrontation of future challenges and focus on smart healthcare. The AI-based projects will play a key role in enhancing the capabilities of healthcare services and providing smart medical solutions, in accordance with the UAE Centennial 2071, and its artificial intelligence strategy.”

He added, “This innovative platform comes as part of MoHAP’s strategy to develop smart systems and provide the best smart electronic services, to achieve customer happiness and implement the standards of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and smart government enablers.”
