Etisalat and RAKBANK, also known as The National Bank of Ras Al Khaimah, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Managed Point of Sale services. As part of the strategic partnership, Etisalat shall provide RAKBANK with last-mile Point of Sale (PoS) operations as its outsourced and managed service partner, a first-of-its-kind approach in the UAE payments and banking industry.

Nokia and Zain Saudi Arabia are deploying Nokia's FastMile technology to provide a superior customer experience to Zain's customers. The deployment, the first for Nokia FastMile in the Middle East and Africa region, follows a successful trial of the technology which recorded speeds of 20 Mbps - significant considering the current demands on 4G networks - and provided seamless 4G macro network coverage to reach users located in a challenging environment.

Greece-based Intracom Telecom, a global telecommunication systems and solutions vendor, announced that jointly with MGTS, one of the largest wireline telecom operators in the CIS (Commonwealth of Dependent States), a member of Russia's MTS Group, successfully completed the tests of Intracom Telecom's Virtualized Wi-Fi Services Platform, thus making MGTS one of the first operators to adopt such technologies for their Corporate Customers.

Moody's Investors Service, considered one of the ‘Big Three' credit rating agencies in the world, have placed the credit rating of Omantel on review for downgrade as a result of the company's move to purchase a further 12.1 percent stake in Kuwait-based Zain Group for US$1.35 billion.

Etisalat announced the successful completion of the first MENA IPTV (Internet Protocol television) service over an existing WTTx (4G) network trial. The trial is the first of its kind over an existing LTE network, and opens the doors to advanced 5G-era streaming services like IPTV over existing wireless networks.

STC subsidiary VIVA Kuwait has been recognized as "Speedtest Award Winner 2017 - Kuwait's Fastest Mobile Network", based on Ookla's analysis of Speedtest Intelligence data in 2017, in Kuwait. Eng. Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Badran, VIVA's CEO, received the award from Mr. Alan Kerrigan, Ookla Director, at VIVA's Headquarters.

US communications provider CenturyLink has completed its acquisition of US telecommunications and Internet service provider Level 3 Communications for an estimated $30 billion. The combination of CenturyLink and Level 3 creates a global network services company capable of providing customers a wide range of technology solutions over a secure fibre-rich network.

US telecom giant Verizon and Ericsson reached another milestone in 4G LTE Advanced Technologies that will also serve as a stepping stone to 5G technology by completing their first deployment of FDD (Frequency Division Duplexing) Massive MIMO (Multiple Input - Multiple Output) on Verizon's wireless network in Irvine, CA.

Ericsson has extended its 20-year strategic partnership with Entel, the largest telecommunications company in Chile. Under the terms of the new contract, Ericsson will prepare Entel's network in the evolution path towards 5G by deploying its latest LTE FDD network technologies and LTE TDD Massive MIMO (Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output).

Saudi Telecom Company (STC), Saudi Arabia's largest telecom company, announced the company's interim financial results for the period ending at 30 September 2017. The group's net income for the 3rd quarter of 2017 increased 18.2 percent compared to the comparable quarter last year, and for the 9 months period of 2017, net income reached SR 7.5 billion, an increase of 10.4 percent compared to the comparable period last year.
