Nkom, Norway’s National Communications Authority, has launched a consultation on allocating 5G-suitable frequencies on 2.6GHz and 3.6GHz bands.

The deadline for submissions to the consultation is 8 September 2020.

In terms of the regulator’s proposals, it is planning to potentially auction off spectrum in the 2.6GHz and 3.6GHz range in a single auction in 2021.

They expect to offer a total of 102MHz in the lower band and for them to be broken down as 14 2x5MHz blocks (FDD) and a single block of 50MHz (TDD).

In addition to this, the regulator also plans to set a starting price of approximately $2.6 million per block and a frequency limit of 80MHz.

As for the 3.6GHz band, the watchdog has suggested an offering of 400MHz, broken down into 40 blocks of 10MHz with the frequency capped at 120MHz. The starting price for this is also set to around $2.6 million.
