Bahrain continues to develop its telecoms sector and has now welcomed the first 5G standalone network in the country.
stc Bahrain, in collaboration with Huawei, will enable a new set of communication services for both consumers and enterprises, through ubiquitous connections and high computing capabilities that can be delivered to individuals for diverse 5G use cases.
A 5G standalone network eliminates the need for an LTE anchor layer and connects directly to the 5G cloud-native core network, leading toward higher complexity 5G eMBB, URLLc, and mMTC service categories.
This will scale up both B2B and B2C services in the Kingdom, unleashing a new set of ideas that stc Bahrain can offer the market.
Commenting on the deployment, CEO Nezar Banabeela said, "Through this achievement, we are laying the foundation for further milestones, service availability, and inclusivity of the fundamental capabilities that are included in stc Bahrain network…"
Huawei Bahrain CEO Ethan Sunxiaofei added, "We are dedicated to providing our strategic partner stc Bahrain with the latest innovative 5G networks technology.” This will form future networks that rely on a combination of mainstream and alternative technologies.
Zain KSA also announced the rollout of Saudi Arabia’s first 5G standalone network in February 2022.
