Zain Iraq, the country's leading mobile operator, announces the promotion and appointment of Ali Al-Zahid as CEO of the company, effective February 1, 2017. An Austrian national with Iraqi roots, Al-Zahid most recently held the position of chief commercial officer of Zain Iraq, which he assumed in June 2015 having joined the organization as Director of Sales in September 2013.

In a first for Lebanon's telecommunications sector, Alfa has embarked on another digital transformation process in partnership with Oracle whereby the operator has deployed the Exadata solutions within its systems. Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company, the parent of the brand du which was launched ten years ago, announced the launch of Virgin Mobile in the UAE on January 31 in Dubai. EITC chief executive Osman Sultan stressed the fact that Virgin Mobile is not being launched as a new telecom operator in the UAE, but a new brand under EITC, aiming to cater to digital natives who live on their mobile phones. Ooredoo Oman announced on 24 January that Ooredoo Group CCO, Ian Dench, has been appointed as the new chief executive officer for Ooredoo Oman. Dench, who joined majority shareholder Qatar's Ooredoo in 2006, has replaced Greg Young, who resigned in October 2016. Ooredoo Oman reported a 5.4 percent fourth-quarter profit growth last week.
