Huawei has unveiled its first smartphones fitted with its first AI mobile chipset, the Kirin 970. The Huawei Mate 10, Huawei Mate 10 Pro and Porsche Design Huawei Mate 10 were unveiled in Munich on October 16, and combine the Kirin 970 chipset and EMUI 8.0 Android interface. The Mate 10 Series continues its legacy of long-lasting battery life, while integrating New Leica Dual Camera technology.

Samsung Electronics announced that Vice Chairman Oh-Hyun Kwon plans to resign as the company's head of the Device Solutions Business and will not seek re-election as a member of the Board of Directors and the Chairman of the Board when his term ends in March, 2018. Vice Chairman Kwon will also resign as the Chief Executive Officer of Samsung Display.

BlackBerry officially announced its new smartphone called BlackBerry Motion featuring a 5.5-inch 1080p LCD display and no physical keyboard - a surprising move for the company that has built its character on having phones that have a keyboard. The device is notably IP67-certified meaning it is dust and water resistant.

The world's leading brand consulting firm Interbrand, has announced its 2017 Best Global Brands Report and confirmed Huawei's move to number 70 -two spots up from its ranking in 2016. Brand valued at approximately USD $6.676 billion; Huawei has grown by 14 percent over the past year.

Qualcomm launched its annual 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong on October 17 gathering media and partners from around the world to share updates on 5G progress. At the summit, Qualcomm announced that its subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies, had successfully achieved a world first 5G data connection on a 5G modem chipset for mobile devices.
